Why Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) Are Essential for Your Business in 2024

The Rise of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs): Why Your Business Needs One

In today’s fast-paced digital world, businesses are constantly seeking new ways to engage their customers. With mobile users overtaking desktop users, companies need to focus on delivering seamless, fast, and reliable web experiences across devices. Enter Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)—a technology revolutionising how businesses interact with users.

But what exactly is a PWA, and why should your business care?

What Are Progressive Web Apps?

A Progressive Web App combines the best of both web and mobile apps. PWAs are websites that behave like apps, offering the same fast, immersive experiences typically found in native mobile applications but without needing to be downloaded from an app store. They work across all platforms—desktop, mobile, or tablet—and are designed to function even in offline environments or with slow internet connections.

Key Benefits of PWAs for Businesses

Improved User Experience (UX)

PWAs load faster and offer smoother interactions, enhancing the overall user experience. With modern web capabilities, they provide app-like features such as push notifications, offline access, and background sync, making them highly interactive. Users get a high-performance experience without the hassle of downloading a traditional app.

Cost-Effective Solution

Developing separate native apps for iOS, Android, and the web can be expensive and time-consuming. PWAs are platform-agnostic, which means you only need to create one application that works everywhere. This reduces development time and costs while still providing an app-like experience for your customers.

Enhanced Performance and Speed

A PWA is designed to load faster than regular websites, even on poor network conditions. By utilising modern caching techniques, PWAs pre-load content and resources, making it possible for users to interact with the site even when they are offline or have a weak connection. Faster websites also lead to higher engagement and lower bounce rates.

Boosted SEO

Since PWAs are essentially websites, they are indexed by search engines, giving businesses an SEO advantage. Unlike native apps, which are not easily searchable, PWAs allow you to harness your existing web presence and drive organic traffic through search engine results. Faster load times and improved user experience also help with higher search rankings.

Increased Conversion Rates

With a frictionless user experience and better load times, PWAs often result in higher conversion rates. Google reported that after implementing a PWA, companies like Alibaba and Flipkart saw significant increases in their conversions and user engagement. Businesses can benefit from features like push notifications to re-engage users and drive them back to the website.

Industries Benefiting from PWAs

Several industries are already experiencing the benefits of PWAs. Here are a few examples:

  1. E-commerce: Companies like Alibaba and Walmart have seen substantial improvements in mobile conversion rates after adopting PWAs.
  2. Media and Content: PWAs help news platforms like The Washington Post and Forbes deliver fast-loading, immersive content to readers.
  3. Travel and Hospitality: Uber and Trivago use PWAs to provide seamless booking experiences across devices, even in low-connectivity areas.
  4. Retail and Food: Starbucks' PWA allows customers to browse and place orders offline, making the service more accessible.

Atturra Transforms HR Processes with SAP SuccessFactors Implementation

Atturra, an Australian advisory and IT solutions provider, has successfully implemented SAP SuccessFactors to revolutionize its HR processes. This initiative aims to enhance HR data accuracy, improve onboarding and learning experiences, and reduce employee turnover. The implementation began in October 2022 and concluded a year later, showcased at the SAP NOW ANZ event.

Previously, Atturra faced challenges with basic HR systems, fragmented spreadsheets, and manual document tracking. As the team grew, so did the administrative burden, resulting in delays and diminishing employee engagement. The company struggled with infrequent performance reviews, poor data quality, and a lack of a structured training platform, which impeded both individual and business growth.

Atturra collaborated with Discovery Consulting to deploy SAP SuccessFactors across its operations. The implementation encompassed core HR services, including Employee Central, Onboarding, Learning, Performance & Goals, and Recruiting. A phased approach facilitated a change management framework, cultural transition, and improved insight into Atturra’s people data, enabling tailored performance and learning objectives.

The results have been remarkable. Atturra now enjoys an automated onboarding process and provides employees with access to self-service tools and learning resources. Compliance training has been enhanced, and HR data accuracy has improved by 78%. Managers have experienced a 49% reduction in HR-related administrative tasks, and staff turnover has decreased by 15%.

David Dekker, Chief Operating Officer at Atturra, stated, “As a company that prides itself on helping clients embrace the tools of the future, we saw how relying on better technology would support our growth and deliver a first-class experience to our people. Implementing SAP SuccessFactors has streamlined our onboarding process, allowing new team members to settle in and start learning and contributing faster. In the second phase, we added further functionalities with the Performance & Goals, Learning, and Recruiting modules. This has been a game changer in promoting a culture of continuous development, boosting employee engagement, and supporting our goals for sustainable growth and innovation.”

Angela Colantuono, President and Managing Director of SAP Australia and New Zealand, remarked, “Implementing SAP SuccessFactors had an immediate, positive impact on Atturra’s employee management, engagement, and retention. From improving its HR systems to better managing its growing team, to refining the onboarding experience from day one, the result was a transformative HR experience that supports and accelerates Atturra’s growth.”

Alistair Elliott, Managing Partner at Discovery Consulting Group, added, “The implementation of SAP SuccessFactors enabled Atturra to drive change in its employee lifecycle management system, underpinned by strong project governance and the continued support and communication from leadership. The willingness to not only adopt new systems but also support organizational change to achieve benefits across the organization and for their people is a testament to the team at Atturra.”
